Our Founders
Chuck and Lynn, life-long residents of Green Lake, created Home Grown because of the burgeoning interest in sustainably-grown, local products. The business began by show-casing items from "producers in the area who have such great quality products." We are happy to carry many local businesses, including Henry's Honey, K's Caramels, Sammie Rae's, Renard's Bakeshop, Mad Dog and Merrill, Carmella's, Hippie Wayne's, Beef from Lenz's Green Lake Meadows, 4M Bison and more!
As the business has grown, Lynn and Chuck have expanded the products offered to include items that aren't necessarily from Wisconsin, but are always created by companies that are family-owned and have sustainable, earth-conscious practices.
We are thrilled that we are realizing our dream of bringing to you Real Foods made by Real People!
Chuck and Lynn hope to see you at the store. The mayor of Green Lake (Chuck!) will show you around, or perhaps his co-pilot, Lynn, will help you select just the right items. You're also welcome to step upstairs and view the beautifully appointed Keipe Hotel!

The Building's History
In 1905, August Keipe built and operated the first year-round hotel in Dartford (now Green Lake). Many of the occupants were local workmen who resided in the boarding house and saloon as they built the Lawson Estate, now known as The Green Lake Conference Center.
Mr. Keipe soon sold the building to Mrs. Ida Polensky, who also ran it as a boarding house, serving breakfast and dinner to the workmen. She even packed their lunches to carry to work each morning! Ida's husband, H. Rudolf Polesnky, along with their three sons, owned and operated a local painting business, which eventually took over part of the hotel building.
In the early 1940's, one of the sons, Herbert Polensky and his wife, Bessie, became sole owners of the family business. It was at this time that the building was no longer used as a hotel, and eventually became known as "Polensky Decorating Shop" owned and operated by Ann (Polensky) Sandleback and her husband, Murray.
Coming full circle, the hotel was back into the hands of a member of the Keipe family when Chuck and Lynn Mirr purchased the building in 2002. Choosing to maintain the history the building has to offer to our historic town, the Mirr's decided to restore the Inn and building which Chuck's great-great Uncle August built over 100 years ago.
The latest chapter for this beautiful building is its inception as a market that is participating in locals' and tourists' desires for supporting locally-grown and sustainable products.
